Emerald Award Finalist
The Beaver Hills Initiative has been selected as a finalist for the 2007 Emerald Award in the Government Institutions cateogry.
The Emerald Awards recognize and reward the excellent environmental initiatives undertaken each year by large and small corporations, individuals, not-for-profit associations, community groups and governments.
This category recognizes all levels of government, Crown corporations, agencies, boards, etc., that demonstrate an ongoing commitment to the environment and exceed normal practice or statutory duties.
Nominations will be judged on the basis of:
- Commitment to preservation, protection, enhancement or sustainability of the environment.
- Positive, tangible and long-term impact on:
- Quality of air, water or land
- Preservation of biological diversity
- Climate change/greenhouse gases
- Public or corporate attitudes toward the environment
This project is not only a great example of how Strathcona County is working towards a sustainable community and conservation of the environment; it also demonstrates leadership and cooperation to achieve collaborative and coordinated decision making with all levels of government.
The awards will be hosted in Calgary, AB on June 6, 2007.
