The Golden Ranch Land Trust group consists of Alberta Fish and Game Association (AFGA), Alberta Conservation Association (ACA), Ducks Unlimted Canada (DUC), Edmonton and Area Land Trust (EALT), and Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC). Other partners in financial and supporting in kind roles, include the Government of Alberta Recreation, Sports and Wildlife Foundation (RSWF), Strathcona County (SC) and the Beaver Hills Initiative (BHI).
This unique partnership cooperation and coordinated efforts have demonstrated the value of combined efforts where working with ENGO’s working with government provides alternative options to land owners when it comes to development and subdivision. By acquiring the habitat lands of the last working ranch, Golden Ranches in SC, the conserved sections of land not only preserve a cultural and historic element to the region but enhance a critical habitat link connecting the north and south portions of the Beaver Hills that will ultimately benefit wildlife movement through the core federal and provincial protected areas.
Further work on developing the management plans is underway. Check the website often for updates as the largest partnership in the capital region for conservation of land in the Beaver Hills evolves.
